WZFO "Fenix"
"Fenix": I, II, Ib, IIb, (Ia, IIa, Is, IIs)
The story of this camera started in Centralne Laboratorium Optyczne (CLO - Central Optic Laboratory in Warsaw).
In 1950 was made the decision about study of Polish camera. After short time works were stoped and taken up again in 1954.
After CLO made a functioning prototype, the goverment decided to move whole project on to WZFO with complete documentation (Remember, it was in socialistic times, when the industry was controlled by goverment). However in WZFO was used only the body of prototype... The most interesting thing is that CLO designed a device which was a single reflex camera (!!!)
"Fenix I" :
- viewfinder 35mm camera (36x24mm)
- lens: Euktar 1:2,8/45mm
- leaf shutter: 1/10, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/250 and B
- accesory shoe, sync for flash (X socket on the lens housing)
- single stroke film advance lever (also cocking shutter)
- film advance from one daylight cartrige to another, without rewind
- semiautomatic exposure counter (hand reset), counter window next to shutter release
- dial film indicator on top of the body (opposite to shutter release)
"Fenix II" (see photo on the left and bottom):
- rangefinder (split image) other parameters like "Fenix I"

Models "Ib" and "IIb" had highlighted frame in view-finders ("Ib" has two windows on front side) . Versions with letter "b" has been adapted to use with universally daylight cartidges (type 135). Film after exposure could be rewind by the knob on bottom of the body. For rewind must be pressed the blockade button on right of accessory shoe.
Models "Ib" and "IIb" are today most in demand by collectors, because they are more rare than earlier models.

"Fenix" had the shutter cocking device with thin cord(!!!), famous of its defectivness... Break down of this cord is the most frequently damage - quite difficult to repair. (But I've done it!)
Jokes, jokes, but this camera had every features of a popular compact camera of the time.They designed two versions of equipment directed to different users, it testified serious treating the market law (in socialistic reality) and it has been well-known in the western constructions like the Kodak Retina. However in my opinion "split-image" rangefinder in weak lighting is more comfortable than usually used double image rangefinder with pale spot. It lets similar effect as focusing on focussing screen with a split.

Fenix I s, II s (see photo on the right): new shutter Synchro-Sydor (1/300 - 1, B, self-timer, sync X and M), moden large and bright viewfinders.
