Става дума за това,че искам да подобря производителността на компа
като обработвам NEF в Capture NX.Чета в една книга(нещо като ръководство за работа с кепчъра),че PC-то ще литне ако Setting your cache file directories и Windows Tip: Set your system page memory file to a directory on your secondary
hard drive.
Та някой знае ли точно пътя за промяна на настройката и този
secondary hard drive трябва да е дял от PC (без С-това ми е ясно),или може да е външен хард.

Moving paging file to a partition on another physical drive improved the overall performance of my PC very significant.
I was testing approx 12 hours before writing these findings. Conclusion: It makes my system MUCH faster.
The program I was hoping most for to improve about speed and stability was Nikon NX2, and it looks very good. Much faster and, -until now- no troubles.

What's 'moving the paging file' and why does it help speeding up the system:
When your operating system needs more RAM than there is actually available @ that moment, it is using virtual memory on your hard drive as RAM.
The standard settings in Windows Vista, Win 7 and XP for virtual memory are system managed about size and are placed on the C-drive. @ the moment there is a need for use of that supplementary (virtual) RAM memory, the C drive is busy as well with handling your OS, the programs you're working with AND the virtual memory on that same drive. Easy to understand that when you move that virtual memory to another physical drive on a separate partition, HD activities are split up between two drives and the whole action becomes faster.
With very memory intensive actions like PP multiple NEF files in Capture and next to that some other programs running there is more often than you might think unsufficient RAM, and while using 64 bit system even more while the variables are 64 bits long instead of 32 bits on a 32bit system . A very good article about memory and the influence on the PC performance while taking into consideration whether you use 32 or 64 bit OS you can find on Tom's hardware website.

How did I move the virtual memory:

I went to: System properties/ Advanced/ Performance settings/advanced/Virtual memory/ I clicked "change"...
I did put the virtual memory on my C drive on "none" and I directed paging file to a separate partition(specially for virtual memory) on a separate physical drive. I was choosing 6142Mb as it was "recommended by the system". I was setting minimum and maximum to the same value in order to prohibit that paging file can change in volume and get fragmented because of that...

That's it, and it works very well, for me.

You can find insteresting notes about this on the website of Menno Schoone, a Dutch computer expert I often ask advice to. He released already multiple books about the use and optimizing of OS's but I don't know if he published them in English as well... He has a English website though with tons of information as well...

Не очаквай реална промяна. Ако си в ситуация компютъра ти да ползва активно пейдж файла значи ти трябва рам, местенето е като да го преместиш от единият крачол в другия (особено, ако е на същият физически диск, или на усб2 диск).

Compur,didesignbg благодаря ви.Доколкото разбрах виртуалната памет трябва да е на самостоятелен физичен носител,определен за тази цел и моите външни драйвчета пълни със снимки,книжки и мп тройки не са подходящи?

Ako имаш закачен 2ри хард(физически) вътре в компа(не с USB) тогава ще има някъв ефект. За да е по-добър ефекта, този същия хард трябва да е бърз! През USB или на дял от основния хард - няма смисъл.

И сега ако боцнеш един ССД диск направо ще се изумиш от бързодействието.
Ако имаш повечко памет можеш да си организираш virtual ram drive.

Ей,ASAHI(не случайно те пиша с caps),като си пишех мъката мислех,че пръв ще се активираш.Един път ми даде страшен съвет,а и следя форума,явно си компетентен.Сега се хващам за ключовите ти думи [smilie11]

В зависимост от BIOS-a na настоящата ти машина и ССД диск може да не тръгне или да ти създаде проблем.

Като начало опитай това, логически вярно и безплатно е и е обратимо :

Next time you start your PC, and before you use CNX, find your cachefiles.txt file and check it's contents. On windows it can be found here......

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Nikon\Capture NX\cachefiles.txt

It contains the names of all the files cached by CNX. Clearing the cache from within CNX's preferences will delete both the files AND the contents of that file. IOW When CNX's cache is cleared the correct way, the file will have no contents, 0 bytes.

Just deleting the files at system startup won't remove their names from that file, and they will probably build up over time. Your batch file will likely need to do more than delete just the cache files if you want to avoid potential issues somewhere down the road.

The imagedb.bak and imagedb.dat files have a hand in this as well. Some of these files will be recreated by CNX when it starts up. I know cachefiles.txt is, but it can be repopulated by one or both of the remaining imagedb files if they are left as-is. So you might want to try selectively deleting (after backing up) those files in order to sort things out and see how CNX reacts.

FWIW I have shortcuts to batch files that clear CNX's temp and openwith folders, but they're simple and not nearly as tricky as the caching system files. And more often than not I'll work with CNX files that have been saved over several OS sessions, so it's not to my advantage to save 2 or 3 seconds by deleting cache files at every startup as I would have to wait longer than that for the (now) uncached files to load. I just clear the cache from within CNX when the time is right. But that's just me.

Кеша е за повтарящи се процеси или приложения, в случая мисля че няма такъв.

Canone,благодаря ти и на теб.Всъщност става дума за компа на вилата ми(тоя в София лети).Като отида там към края на месеца ще се възползвам от компетентните ви съвети....То е друга тема (бях я пускал преди време),та оная машина не иска да трие NEF,независимо дали е на карта или от харда.Казва,че файла се ползва от друга програма и трябва да го отключвам с Unlocker,за да го махна.Тогава Asahi ме посъветва от properties-security да го оправя,но не иска,та ако нещо се сетиш-благодаря. [smilie11]
