Има и накакъв кораб на име Кохота, претърпял корабокрушение (днес свърших предиобедната си работа малко по-рано от обикновено), информация за което се явява в Ню Йорк Таймс от 20 септември, сряда, 1855 г.

I totally agree with you about the Cohota being a club or something
of the sort. I have gone through all my books and can find NO
references to a Cohota Tribe or any references to the word Cohota
either.
If you didn't actually have the letter as a reference I could come
up with some words that through time could have been misread or
misspelled as cohota, but since you have it in black and white, I
don't think that would work...

Edward Day Cohota was one of about 6o Chinese Americans who fought in the Civil War, to include the battle of Gettysburg. Cohota was born in Shanghai and brought to the U.S. by a Mass. ship's Captain. He served 30 years in the U.S. Military.
