Camera and lens technology has advanced enormously over the past three decades. Rollei has now combined everything that is technologically and optically useful for the demanding photographer in a new camera concept. Two viewfinder cameras, the QZ 35W and QZ 35T, have been developed for the 35 mm full format. They not only set new standards, they also carry on the great Rollei tradition in this segment. At the same time, they are able to ideally satisfy the demands made by the more ambitious photographer for higher functionality, unique ease of operation and exclusive design.
Design by F.A. Porsche The impressive design of the Rollei QZ 35 has come from F.A. Porsche, one of the world's leading product designers. Yet the design of the Rollei QZ 35 is certainly not an end in itself. A deliberate effort has been made to avoid extreme miniaturization and weight reduction in favor of a well-balanced, exceptionally user-friendly handling. This is a basic condition for comfortable photography and perfect results.
The successful synthesis of aesthetics and functionality is underlined by the choice of high-grade materials. The elegant, matte-finish camera housing is made of valuable titanium alloy, which gives the camera above all high stability and excellent resistance properties. Titanium is particularly compatible with the skin. And because titanium is a high sophisticated and precious metal it feels good to touch in both heat and cold. In addition to this, titanium also has a self-healing effect. If damaged, the surface closes with a protective layer and prevents corrosion.
Maximum precision is also to be found beneath the elegant surface of the Rollei QZ 35. The core of the housing is made of high-quality diecast aluminium to ensure maximum stability and deformation resistance. The outstanding design quality of the Rollei QZ 35 is also evident in the details. Ergonomically designed recesses enable the photographer to hold the camera securely in every situation, while all the knobs and buttons are exactly where he would expect them.
The shutter speed dial and manual focusing dial are elegantly sunk into the housing where they are after adjustment safely can be locked and protected. There are two versions: the Rollei QZ 35W places the emphasis on wide-angle, with a zoom range from 28-60 mm, while the Rollei QZ 35T is geared more to telephoto and covers the focal length spectrum from 38-90 mm. This enables the photographer to choose his camera according to his own personal requirements.
Regardless of whether he chooses the wide-angle or telephoto variation, the fast VarioApogon zoom lenses on the Rollei QZ have everything it takes to provide maximum optical performance. They are the result of decades of experience in the construction of professional medium-format lenses and they are an outstanding product of excellence created by the Rollei / Samsung research and development centre in Brunswick/ Germany. Both VarioApogon lenses have a maximum aperture of 1:2.8 and, even in the telephoto range, do not go below the practical 1:5.6.
The high-grade 10-element lens was developed with modern, computer-assisted calculations specifically for the Rollei QZ. All the elements have been given the HFT (High Fidelity Transfer) multiple coating, which has been developed by Rollei and consistently improved. It is able to effectively eliminate troublesome reflections and colour fringes. The enormous optical complexity and the accurate centring of the lens elements guarantees unique sharpness even at full aperture, excellent contrast behaviour, impressive colour rendition and optimum resolution.

Metering system with variable exposure control Being a fast 35 mm viewfinder camera, the Rollei QZ 35 is also an all-round camera, with which it is just as easy to take shots of sports events as it is taking creative photos. A variable exposure system with a high degree of handling comfort therefore ensures that, in all conceivable situations, the results meet the highest professional standards.
There is a choice of three automatic programs and manual metering, depending on the job in hand: aperture-priority - the correct shutter speed is automatically set for the pre-selected aperture; step less between 1/8000 s (!) and 16 s. shutter-priority - the correct aperture is automatically set for the pre-selected shutter speed. program AE - ideal for surprise snapshots, as the camera automatically selects the optimum shutter speed/aperture combination. manual metering - unbounded freedom for creative photography. The automatic focusing system can also be switched off for creative purposes or with fast moving subjects. Comprehensive, professional features The features of the Rollei QZ 35 satisfy even the extreme demands of professional users. The electronically controlled, vertical-run focal-plane shutter allows step less flash times between 16 s and a sensational 1/8000 s. The film is rewound auto-matically into the cassette at the end of the film. The rewind can, however, be manually activated at any point. A self timer is available, as is the possibility for creative multiple exposures (up to 3). Another high-grade feature of the Rollei QZ 35 is a facility for imprinting the date and time. Computer flash metering The flash system has been developed specifically for the Rollei QZ 35 and fully satisfies the high demands made on these new camera models in terms of both design and function. The flash unit with its guide number of 20 at ISO 100 is connected via a special contact to the camera's dedicated TTL flash metering system. The flash can be used at any aperture, providing maximum flexibility for flash exposures.
The flash unit automatically takes into account the angle of coverage of the lens as the focal length is changed.
